1 Thessalonians 5:For you (Thessalonian Christians) know very well that the day of the (the Lord’s return) will come like a thief in the night… So then let us not fall asleep as others do, but let us keep awake…For God has destined us not for wrath but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ…

Back in the early days of Christianity, there was an expectation that Jesus would return at any moment. Literally. Few of the early believers expected to die a mortal death. JESUS WAS COMING!!

But then, he didn’t.

And as years piled up, and early believers experienced mortal death like everyone else, some believers began to fall away. Some even reverted to their old pagan ways. Let’s face it – most people are not good at waiting for most anything, especially Americans. When things don’t happen in our expected time-frame, we can become discouraged.

Some of you have been waiting for something very important to you. And the longer you wait, the harder it is to keep the faith that it will ever come to pass. I think Paul’s word for us today is to not lose hope. Our God does not always work in our ideal time-frame, but our God is at work nonetheless.

Keep heart brothers and sisters.
