1 Timothy 1:3 I urge you, as I did when I was on my way to Macedonia, to remain in Ephesus so that you may instruct certain people not to teach any different doctrine, 4 and not to occupy themselves with myths and endless genealogies that promote speculations rather than the divine training that is known by faith. 5 But the aim of such instruction is love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and sincere faith.
What’s the point of Christian teaching, training, or doctrine? Why should people attend worship services? Why should we study the bible? Why should we give our hard-earned money in the offering plate? Why should we serve those outside of the church?
What’s the point?
v5. “But the aim of such instruction is love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and sincere faith.”
The point of the Christian life is to be transformed – from the inside out – into the likeness of our Lord Jesus. We become people who love God, love others, and love the world around us – just like Jesus did. And in so doing, our lives reflect the character of our God.
Question I’m asking myself this morning: Am I being transformed from the inside out or am I just going through the motions?
Lord Jesus, help those of us who might be stuck in a spiritual rut right now. Give us grace to break out of our spiritual malaise and be made “new”. We ask this in your precious name. Amen.
