Psalm 111: 1 Praise the Lord! I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation. 2 Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them. 3 Full of honor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever. 4 He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds; the Lord is gracious and merciful.
I am captured this morning by the spirit of gratitude in this psalm. The writer recalls the many ways he and his people have been blessed by God – now and in the past. This resonates with me this morning.
My youngest brother Junior lives with my sister-in-law Ruth (a native Brit) in England, after having lived in Shanghai for 18 months before that. They’ve just been married two years, and recently had their first child, Theo. My newest nephew!
I had the pleasure of seeing them this weekend as they made a trip to the US. They were struggling from jet lag, especially little Theo. Yet I again marveled at the blessing of a beautiful little child. I wonder what the Lord will do with this little man’s life. I smile as I think how my brother’s life has just changed forever. 🙂
And as I drove home Saturday evening from San Antonio I couldn’t help but smile and thank God for all his blessings. Yes, my family has had many struggles over the years. That’s normal. But, overall, we are blessed.
What do you have to be thankful for today?
Heavenly Father, you are good in so many ways. Give us grace to offer thanks and praise to you this morning, despite the difficulties we may be facing. Amen.
