Ezekiel 20: 33 As I live, says the Lord God, surely with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out, I will be king over you. 34 I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you are scattered…38 I will purge out the rebels among you, and those who transgress against me; I will bring them out of the land where they reside as aliens, but they shall not enter the land of Israel. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.
God’s people have done a poor job of regulating themselves, policing themselves, keeping themselves faithful to their covenant with God. It’s a mess. In fact, it’s such a mess that they’ve been conquered in battle and (those remaining alive) taken to other nations as slaves. But God says in this passage he is going to clean house.
38 I will purge out the rebels among you, and those who transgress against me; I will bring them out of the land where they reside as aliens, but they shall not enter the land of Israel.
God had to do the purging because the people weren’t capable of it. There is this thing called “sin” that always gets in our way. This morning I’m asking the Lord to clean house – in me. I have a lot of junk on the inside that needs to go. NOW. But I also admit I can’t do it in my own strength. I need the Lord’s grace and mercy to set me free.
How about you?
Heavenly Father, only you can truly clean house – in us. Give us grace to submit to your “purging” of our lives, that our lives might give you glory. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
