Jesus is calling…

jesus-calling

Scripture: John 10:1 “Very truly, I tell you, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold by the gate but climbs in by another way is a thief and a bandit. The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. They will not follow a stranger, but they will run from him because they do not know the voice of strangers.”

Observation:  Not everyone responded to Jesus by following him, but some did because “they know his voice” (v.4). They had been prepared in advance by God the Father to follow after the true shepherd.

Application: There are many voices in today’s world calling us to follow. There is the voice of “more” promising fulfillment if we buy the right stuff – even if we have to go into debt to do so. There is the voice of “achievement” that promises the good life if we will only attain the next goal or objective or promotion. There is the voice of “beauty” that promises a bright future if we’ll just lose the weight, smooth the wrinkles, tone the muscles, or wear the right designer brands. I could go on.

None of these voices actually delivers over the long-term. The benefits they produce pass quickly.

If you’re reading this blog there’s a good chance you’re one who hears the voice of the Good Shepherd, of Jesus, calling you. If you’ve been burned by the promises others have made over the years that didn’t deliver, you might be hesitant to respond in faith. I get it. One can only take so much disappointment. But Jesus is the real deal friends. Give Jesus a chance. Follow after him, surrender to him, submit to him. Your life will never be the same. Don’t wait another day.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we hear your voice calling out to us. There are some reading this blog who’ve been burned before. People have promised the moon and disappointed. Give us grace to set aside our doubts follow you. Right now. Amen.

P.S. here’s a song that speaks better than I can. It really ministered to me this morning. Take a listen…
