Sanctified in the truth…

John 17:17 (Jesus said) Sanctify (my disciples) in the truth; your word is truth.

The word “sanctify” means “set apart for a holy purpose”. As Christians we are initially set apart in our baptism when we die to sin and are raised up as children of God in Christ Jesus. We remain sanctified as we abide in God’s word, which is truth.

People sometimes ask me about writing this blog. How long does it take? About an hour each day – sometimes more, sometimes less. Why do you write a blog? Because I’m not a disciplined person by nature, so this blog is a vehicle for accountability. Which I desperately need. Do you follow a particular bible reading plan? Yes. I follow the Moravian Daily Texts which can be found here It takes me through the Old Testament every two years and the New Testament every year.

Today I simply want to thank those of you who read my blog. You motivate me when I’m not feeling it, which is more often than you might think. And if the blog speaks to you from time to time, know that it has little to do with me. Our God takes my meager offering and does something useful with it anyway.

Heavenly Father, we thank you today for your word which is truth. Give us grace that we might remain in your word, continuing to be sanctified for your purposes. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
