Confessing our sin…

Romans 6:9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin, once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. 11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

The bible teaches me that, in Christ Jesus, I’ve been set free from sin forever. I was washed clean in the waters of baptism and empowered by the Holy Spirit to live as God intended from the beginning. And for the most part I see the truth of that. But not completely. There are still parts of my life in which sin is present. I’m not proud of that, but it’s true.

So this morning I find myself confessing my sins to the Lord, asking for the power of the Spirit to come alive in me to conquer my weaknesses. Left to myself I would have no hope of this. But as a child of God in Christ Jesus, all things are possible.

Question: Where in your life do you need the Lord to set you free from sin and death?

Lord Jesus, have mercy on us sinners. Blot out our transgressions and give us grace to turn toward you. We ask this in your holy name. Amen.
