The battle is real…

2 Thessalonians 2:13 But we must always give thanks to God for you, brothers and sisters beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the first fruits for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and through belief in the truth…3 Finally, brothers and sisters, pray for us, so that the word of the Lord may spread rapidly and be glorified everywhere, just as it is among you, 2 and that we may be rescued from wicked and evil people; for not all have faith.

The apostle Paul mentions several times in this letter that he continually prays for the Christians in Thessalonica who are dealing with various struggles and persecutions. Here he asks the people to “pray for us” that he and his team might be “rescued from wicked and evil people”.

Everyone needs prayer, but Christian leaders are in particular need – not just clergy and staff but lay leaders, elders, teachers, council/board members, and so on. I can assure you the enemy of God is constantly attacking, subverting, and undermining our work as best he can. Personally, I find it particularly difficult to see the enemy not just attacking me, but attacking my family – especially my children. The enemy does not play fair. Nothing is off limits.

That said, it blesses me tremendously to know that the saints are continually lifting me and my family in prayer, including many of you who read this blog. I’m immensely grateful for you, for your diligence in prayer, for your battle on my behalf in the heavenly realms. Please know that I pray for you as well.

Lord Jesus, give us grace to pray for one another each and every day, for the spiritual battle could not be more real. Amen.
