Deuteronomy 9:22 (Moses said) At Taberah also, and at Massah, and at Kibroth-hattaavah, you provoked the LORD to wrath. 23 And when the LORD sent you from Kadesh-barnea, saying, “Go up and occupy the land that I have given you,” you rebelled against the command of the LORD your God, neither trusting him nor obeying him. 24 You have been rebellious against the LORD as long as he has known you.
Moses had just recalled that the people had NEVER been faithful to the Lord, but were rebellious from start to finish. So what does the Lord do? Gives them a set of rules to follow (10 commandments) which, if followed faithfully, would give the people life. But they proved to be unfaithful once again. Sounds like a technical solution to an adaptive problem. Ultimately, through Jesus, God applies an adaptive solution to an adaptive problem – and it changes everything.
