Deuteronomy 30:6 Moreover, the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, so that you will love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, in order that you may live.
God had been giving the people the laws and regulations to follow so as to remain in covenant relationship with God (who would provide protection and provision) and to prosper in the land they were about to enter. When you read all the requirements it seems impossible. How in the world can anyone actually please God given our shortcomings and brokenness, our stubborn hearts and determination to do things our way rather that God’s way? This verse is the answer.
“…God will circumcise your heart…”
Truth? We cannot please God in our own strength, with our own will power or determination to do good. We just can’t. We will always fall short, as I’m sure you’re aware. But the promise in this verse is that God will do in us what we cannot. God can and will reshape/remake our hearts so that “you will love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul”.
Heavenly Father, circumcision is a mark of the covenant. It’s a sign that we belong to you. Remake us from the inside out. Set us free from the bondages of sin and death and lead us to eternal life through Christ Jesus. Amen.
