Psalm 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When evildoers assail me to devour my flesh— my adversaries and foes— they shall stumble and fall. 3 Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war rise up against me, yet I will be confident.

You have to admire David’s faith in the face of trouble. V.3 is a great example:

“Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war rise up against me, yet I will be confident.”

Circumstances are grim, but David’s spirit is at rest in the Lord. I’m pretty sure David’s internal peace was the result of time he spent worshiping in the house of the Lord, offering sacrifices to the Lord, singing and playing instruments for the Lord. When one’s heart, mind, and soul are directed to the Lord there’s little room for fear and anxiety.

Sometimes when I wake in the morning I have a sense of dread or fear – like I’m already behind before I’ve gotten out of bed. A list goes through my head of things I need to get done. I fear for mistakes I may have made the day before. Where am I dropping the ball? That ever happen to you?

That’s one reason why it’s so important for me to start the day in the word of God. There are many times, like today, when I’m reminded to whom I belong. The Lord holds me, my family, my church in the palm of his hand. My world is not mine to carry, but belongs to the Lord. That is very good news indeed. Amen.
