For he will abundantly pardon…

Standard

Isaiah 55: 6 Seek the LORD while he may be found, call upon him while he is near; 7 let the wicked forsake their way, and the unrighteous their thoughts; let them return to the LORD, that he may have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Here God is calling sinful people back to himself. Three things strike me in this passage:

  1. v.7 mentions both things that people do and things that people think as requiring forgiveness. Sometimes my thought life is the bigger problem.
  2. v.7b mentions that God will “abundantly pardon” those who seek him. Yes!
  3. Then v.8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways…”. One of the greatest struggles for people, including myself, it the act of forgiveness. It can take people a very long time to let go of pain inflicted by someone else.

This morning I’m wondering where I might be harboring unforgiveness in my heart. Lord give me grace to give my hurt and pain to you. Amen.
