You increased my strength of soul…

Standard

Psalm 138:1 I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing your praise; 2 I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness; for you have exalted your name and your word above everything.3 On the day I called, you answered me, you increased my strength of soul.

V.3 is what gets my attention here. On the day the psalmist called to the Lord, the Lord answered. How?

“… you increased my strength of soul”.

In other words, the response was an internal one rather than external; a response addressing the soul rather than the circumstances. This really speaks to me today. Like everyone else I’m trying to navigate through this time of pandemic, praying for the Lord to destroy the virus, remove it, take it away. And I have no doubt the Lord can do it. However, scripture is full of instances when the Lord gives strength to endure rather than removal of the stressful situation. Sometimes it would seem the Lord wants us to go through the storm rather than around it.

Love give me strength of soul today. Amen.
